By the age of 14, Hannelore had lost her home and her citizenship, when the Nazis and their collaborators worked to erase every trace of Jewish life in Germany. From 1941 to 1945, she was a captive, moved around through five concentration camps and prisoner ghettos, until an American soldier finally liberated her. Her entire family had been murdered and she was the only one to survive the Holocaust.
